Ring sizing feels simple until temperature, band width, and measuring technique change the result. For the most reliable at-home estimate, measure more than once and compare your result with the size chart on the product page.
Method 1: Measure a ring that already fits
- Choose a ring that fits the same finger on the same hand.
- Place it on a flat surface.
- Measure the inside diameter straight across the center in millimeters. Do not include the metal edges.
- Compare the diameter with the store's ring-size chart.
This method works best when the reference ring has a band width similar to the new style. A wide band can feel tighter than a delicate band in the same nominal size.
Method 2: Measure your finger
- Wrap a narrow, non-stretch strip of paper around the base of the finger.
- Keep it comfortably snug without compressing the skin.
- Mark the point where the ends meet.
- Lay the strip flat and measure the length in millimeters.
- Use the circumference column in the relevant size chart.
A printable sizing tool can also help, but confirm that the page is printed at 100% scale. A scaled-to-fit printout can produce the wrong result.
Measure at the right time
Fingers naturally change size. Measure near the end of the day, when your hands are at a normal comfortable temperature. Avoid measuring immediately after intense exercise, exposure to very cold weather, or a salty meal. Repeat the measurement on two or three different occasions.
Remember the knuckle
If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, measure both areas. The ring needs to pass over the knuckle but should not spin excessively once in place. A slightly different band style or an adjustable design may offer a more comfortable balance.
How should a ring fit?
A well-fitting ring should slide over the knuckle with light resistance, sit comfortably without pinching, and require a gentle twist to remove. It should not leave a painful indentation or feel at risk of slipping off when your hands are cool.
Common sizing mistakes
- Using stretchy string that changes length
- Measuring the outside instead of the inside diameter of a reference ring
- Assuming both hands have identical measurements
- Ignoring the effect of a wide band
- Rounding before checking the store's exact conversion chart
- Taking only one measurement
Fixed-size or adjustable?
Fixed-size rings provide a consistent circular shape and may be preferred for daily wear. Adjustable rings offer flexibility for gifting, changing finger size, or styling on different fingers. They should still be adjusted gently and only as directed; repeated forceful bending can weaken metal.

Final check before ordering
Confirm which sizing system the product uses, review the product-specific chart, and contact customer support when your result falls between two sizes. For a high-value piece or a ring intended for long-term daily wear, a professional jeweler's measurement is the best confirmation.
